The Wegmans in Lower Makefield is on target for an early 2024 opening on Stony Hill Road.
The grocery store is part of the Prickett Preserve at Edgewood development that was approved in April 2021 and includes 200 apartments, and several retail and dining spots on 36 acres across from Shady Brook Farm. The housing is well under construction too.
The developers have also said some $7 million in traffic safety improvements would be made to accomodate the residential and retail growth.
The 88,000-square-foot Wegmans will be the commercial anchor that developers say will help drive interest in filling several smaller retail and restaurant buildings. Firebirds Wood Fired Grill has also announced plans to open in the mixed-use development.
The website for the Madison Prickett Preserve apartments, which is taking reservations now for the luxury units, gives a glimpse into the retail plans.
"Some of the future shops and restaurants include Wegmans, CVS, Firebirds Wood Fire Grill, Tropical Smoothie, First Watch, Spenga: Spin + Strength + Yoga, and much more," it reads.
Wegmans will offer its own food fare, too. It will include a "market cafe," officials said.
"The market café will offer a wide range of restaurant-quality prepared foods, including pizza, sushi, fresh salads, sandwiches, Asian-inspired cuisine, soup, and packaged, ready-to-go entrees and sides," said Wegmans spokesperson Marcie Rivera.
The store is now hiring full-time employees and will begin hiring part-time employees next month.
Wegmans expects to have a staff of 400 employees, said Rivera. Many full-timers have been hired but there are still full-time positions available for culinary and food service roles and for positions in the bakery, seafood and meat departments as well as in produce, Rivera said.

Traffic improvements include trails
Wegman's is part of a town center for the development which will include other retail stores, eateries, and the Madison at Prickett Preserve apartment complex featuring a lap pool and work-from-home business center.
The development will be connected with nearby Shady Brook Farm, a corporate center and Edgewood Village through a trail system included in $7 million in traffic improvements planned around the community off Stony Hill Road near the Newtown Bypass. The development is being built by DeLuca Homes, Envision Land Use and Equus Capital Partners.
