BSA CareXpress launches affordable healthcare program amid rising cold, flu, and COVID cases

With Texas leading the nation in uninsured individuals, BSA CareXpress is stepping up its efforts to ensure everyone in Amarillo and the surrounding communities has access to affordable healthcare. With cold and flu season around the corner, and an uptick in COVID cases, it’s even more important for people to get the quality care they need. That’s why CareXpress has launched CareXpress CARES, an affordable medical discount program tailored for those who lack health care coverage or have a high-deductible plan, a news release says.

"Texas unfortunately leads the nation in uninsured individuals. As we head into fall and winter, our goal is to ensure everyone can access quality healthcare. CareXpress CARES is our answer," stated CareXpress CEO Steve Smith in the release.

For $39 a month and $39 per visit, CareXpress CARES offers patients unlimited urgent and preventative healthcare visits. The program covers all professional services provided by a CareXpress provider and includes in-house labs and tests, injectable treatments, x-rays, and EKGs. Plans for couples, individuals with children, and families are also available.

CareXpress CARES can also be utilized for virtual visits, greatly broadening access to healthcare in the smaller communities across the Texas Panhandle. CareXpress offers telehealth visits 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

"We’re a locally-owned organization and are deeply committed to providing top-tier healthcare to our family, friends, and neighbors," Smith added. "Staying healthy can create profound positive impacts on the lives of our patients and our community."

New state legislation changes licensing fees issued by city department

Senate Bill 577 in the Texas Legislature is changing licensing fees for alcoholic beverage licenses and food hygiene licenses issued by the City of Amarillo Environmental Health Department. As of Sept. 1, businesses that hold a food hygiene license through the city's Environmental Health Department will no longer have to pay the city portion of their alcoholic beverage permit/license held with the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission (TABC), according to the city.

The remaining businesses that hold a TABC license and do not hold a food hygiene license with the Environmental Health Department will still need to remit payment of the city portion of their alcoholic beverage permit/license to the city's Accounting Department. All new TABC pre-qualification packages can be delivered to the City Secretary’s office at City Hall, 601 S. Buchanan. For more information, contact the Amarillo Environmental Health Department at (806) 378-9472.
