The Global X FTSE Greece 20 ETF (GREK) rose 7.61 percent during the week ending Thursday, Aug. 8, making it the best-performing ETF in the period.
The S'P 500 slid 9.39 points, or less than 1 percent, during that same five-day period, closing at 1,697.48 and retreating from its record-breaking close above 1,700 points.
Agriculture ETNs outperformed as well, with the second-best performance of the week belonging to the iPath Dow Jones-UBS Cocoa Total Return ETN (NIB), which rose 7.48 percent.
It’s important to note that ETNs like NIB and other top performers sometimes convey phantom peaks and valleys in performance tracking due to illiquidity.
On the sliding side of the week’s performance, oil and gas funds most noticeably lagged behind, led by the United States Gasoline fund (USO), which fell 5.66 percent.
