Visakhapatnam Port Authority (VPA) has entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL) for a Rs3bn ($34m) project aimed at enhancing traffic management and cargo evacuation at the port in India.

The agreement, signed yesterday (2 January), involves constructing a flyover bridge to ensure uninterrupted movement between the port and the city.

The planned flyover bridge, spanning 3.341km with approaches and ramps, is designed to facilitate seamless access for port-bound traffic and eliminate 11 level crossings that currently cause congestion.

With carriageway widths of 7m for two lanes and 10.5m for three lanes, this infrastructure is set to improve cargo flow efficiency at Visakhapatnam Port.

The signing ceremony was attended by VPA chairperson M Angamuthu and deputy chair Durgesh Kumar Dubey, along with department heads and senior officials.

VPA secretary T Venu Gopal pointed out the importance of this project for the future growth and efficiency of the port.

Meanwhile, RVNL was named as the lowest bidder for a Rs.4.04bn project by East Coast Railway.

This project includes the construction of 27 major bridges and other associated works and is expected to be completed within 30 months, reported Construction World.

Furthermore, RVNL has also been declared the lowest bidder for a $1.5bn contract with Central Railway to design and supply the traction system for the Bhusaval-Khandawa sections in the country.

This project is anticipated to be completed in 24 months.
