“Food prices are still high and are likely to rise again so it’s likely that many people will be looking to cut costs where they can. Our analysis shows that by switching supermarkets, shoppers could pay up to 26% less, highlighting the advantages of shopping around where possible."
The list of items included both branded and own-brand items, such as Birds Eye Peas, Hovis bread, milk and butter. Special offers and loyalty prices were included, but any multi-buys were not.

Asda beat Tesco by about £5, as the country's biggest supermarket came in second at £510.25. Asda’s top spot for the longer shopping list comes after the supermarket brought back Rollback pricing — claiming to have slashed the prices of more than 4,000 products in-store and online by an average of 25%.
Waitrose was the most expensive supermarket for the larger trolley of items. In April, a Waitrose shop cost a total of £570.89, a difference of £65.10 compared to Asda.
Meanwhile, UK food inflation jumped 2.6% year-on-year in April, building on increases of 2.4% in March and heading above the three-month average of 2.4%.
The moves higher pushed food price increases to an 11-month high, according to data from the British Retail Consortium (BRC), with everyday essentials including bread, meat, and fish feeling the squeeze.
