In This Article:

March 4 - Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC, Financial) is set to boost its U.S. presence with a planned $100 billion investment in a modern chip manufacturing complex in Arizona, according to a Monday press release.

During a joint announcement with President Trump, TSMC CEO C.C. Wei outlined plans to build three chip fabrication plants, two packaging facilities, and an R&D center. This expansion will bring the total investment at the Arizona site to $165 billion, marking a major step in boosting domestic semiconductor production.

For economic and national security, Trump assured us that the most powerful AI chips in the world will be made right here in America. However, it comes as Trump has vowed to slap tariffs of at least 25% on semiconductor imports on March 2 and on further products from Canada and Mexico on Tuesday.

In the fourth quarter of 2024 TSMC's first Arizona factory will start production and is already in discussions to manufacture Nvidia Blackwell chips. Meanwhile, the project also received $6.6 billion of federal funding under the CHIPS and Science Act, which ensures U.S. is committed globally to a strong chip industry.
