The U.S. has called on China to arrange a phone call between Xi Jinping and Donald Trump.

White House trade adviser Peter Navarro doubled down on President Trump’s aggressive trade posture Friday morning, calling the latest moves part of a broader “90 deals in 90 days” strategy.

“Americans should trust in Trump, the markets should trust in Trump, and not get these weak knees,” Navarro told Fox Business, referring to the 90-day tariff pause that gives non-retaliating countries a temporary reprieve while trade deals are negotiated.

Staff and the owner declined to comment, according to Channel News Asia.

Meanwhile, in Colombo, the International Monetary Fund warned that the Trump administration’s tariffs are posing fresh challenges for Sri Lanka’s economic recovery.

China also retaliated, announcing that it raised tariffs on U.S. imports from 84% to “125%,” according to a statement by the Chinese Commerce Ministry, responding directly to Trump’s 145% hike on Chinese exports.
