A new store that boasts that it appeals to “teens and tweens and beyond” is poised to open in Hornell.
Popular discount retailer Five Below will begin welcoming customers this week, with the latest addition to the Hornell Plaza announcing its "grand opening" will be at 10 a.m. on Friday.
Five Below is located at 1010 state Route 36. It joins a Hornell shopping anchor that includes both Wegmans and Walmart. Five Below takes the space previously occupied by Olympia Sports.
Five Below: Prices typically between $1 and $5
Most items at Five Below are priced between $1 and $5, with some “extreme value” merchandise costing more than $5.
Five Below merchandise is separated into eight designated “worlds,” including Style, Room, Sports, Tech, Create, Party, Candy, and New & Now.
Five Below began renovating the Hornell storefront late this summer, with its signature blue and white "Five Below: hot stuff. cool prices." sign now installed on the building.
Founded in 2002, Five Below has more than 1,300 stores in 42 states, with an average retail space of about 9,000 square feet, according to company officials.
Nationally, Five Below employs roughly 22,000 workers, of which 6,500 are full-time.

In the region, Horseheads, Geneseo and Canandaigua are among the communities with Five Below stores.
While 5 Below has not yet announced regular hours for its Hornell store, the Geneseo and Horseheads stores are open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Sundays and 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
