Toyota Motor North America will invest an additional $88 million into its components plant in Buffalo, W.Va., to produce a new generation of hybrid transaxles.
The investment will pay for construction of the new line, including site preparation, equipment and installation, a plant spokesman confirmed. Last year, the plant started production of its fifth-generation transaxle, used in Toyota and Lexus hybrid vehicles, after a $300 million investment in the plant in 2021 and 2022.

The next-generation transaxle is scheduled to go into production in late 2026, Toyota said. About 2,000 people work at the 2-million-square-foot plant, which also produces 2.4-liter turbocharged and 2.5-liter naturally aspirated four-cylinder engines as well as transmissions.
