Jan. 15—Police in two Valley communities are investigating threats made against establishments on Monday.
The Sunbury YMCA on North Fourth Street and Planet Fitness in the Orchard Hills shopping center were both closed for the evening following the incidents.
At about 5:15 p.m. Monday, Shamokin Dam Police were called to the area of Baldwin Boulevard to investigate what Chief Timothy Bremigen called "a threat to the community. Officers took measures to safeguard the public and there was no harm to anyone."
No more information was provided pending an investigation.
Shamokin Dam Borough Manager Ed Hovenstine said he was informed that a threat had been made at Planet Fitness in the Orchard Hills shopping center but had no more details. Planet Fitness announced on its website that it was closed for the evening and would reopen at 4 a.m. Tuesday.
Sunbury Police Chief Travis Bremigen said police were dispatched to the YMCA at around 4:30 p.m. after a report made by a YMCA employee to Sunbury police about receiving the terroristic threat call.
The YMCA closed for the remainder of the day after the threat was made, Bremigen said.
Bremigen said police arrived and cleared the building and an investigation is underway.
Bremigen said police are taking all precautionary measures and asked that anyone with information contact Northumberland County 911.
The chief said he would update the public when they are able to release more information.
