For the second time, Texworld New York City is teaming with think tank Material Innovation Initiative (MII) for a Next-Gen Innovation Hub, which will highlight sustainable fibers and alternative materials. As interest in sourcing options such as plant-based and cruelty-free inputs grows, Messe Frankfurt is giving attendees a chance to explore, touch and feel these materials. It will also be an educational opportunity to learn more about increasingly widening array of choices available.
“Sustainability must be at the forefront of every collection,” said Thomasine Dolan, director of materials innovation and design at MII. “We want to give brands the tools and inspiration they need to create a new model for beauty and wearability.”
The partnership with MII is one element of Messe Frankfurt’s efforts to bring sustainability to its shows. At all its global textile events, the organizer is rolling out a new “Econogy” concept for all its sustainability activities. A portmanteau of economy and ecology, Econogy highlights the connection between environmental change and business health. Initiatives include raising the visibility of low-impact exhibitors and cultivating opportunities for exchanging knowledge.
Helping buyers find the right partners for their needs, Texworld NYC curates lists of suppliers that fit criteria for Sustainable Sourcing, Small Quantity—with production minimums as low as 50 pieces or meters—and Local Sourcing—encompassing North American-based factories, trim and fabric manufacturers and more. The show will also debut a “performance pitch” space where Next-Gen Hub material makers and exhibitors can present their newest products to attendees in brief symposiums.
