British supermarket chain Tesco has allocated a significant investment to provide shoppers with substantial discounts on key vegetables for the traditional Christmas meal.
Until 25 December 2024, essential vegetables are available at special Clubcard prices in large stores.
The initiative is fully subsidised by Tesco, aiming to make high-quality fresh produce more accessible during a period when household spending is often stretched.
The discounts do not compromise Tesco's payments to its agricultural partners.
Although Clubcard members will see prices comparable to the 2023 festive season, Tesco has increased its payment rates to farmers in 2024 for each of the seven vegetables, acknowledging the financial challenges they face.
All Tesco's Christmas 2024 Brussels sprouts, cabbage, carrots, onions, parsnips and potatoes are sourced from within the UK, as is Tesco’s Finest range of turkeys, beef, lamb, pork and gammon. All fresh sausages, pigs in blankets and stuffings offered by Tesco are produced using exclusively British meat.
Further holiday savings through Clubcard Prices at Tesco include half-price offers on a selection of Finest mince pies and significant reductions on beef, pork and gammon joints and salmon.
Tesco chief commercial officer Ashwin Prasad stated: “We’re proud of our longstanding partnerships with British growers, who are helping us to get great quality fresh vegetables onto the nation’s Christmas dinner plates.
“We want to make it as easy as possible for customers to access the Christmas vegetables they need, which is why Tesco foots the bill for these Clubcard prices offers.
“While Clubcard customers will pay the same price as last Christmas, the price that we pay our growers for all seven of the vegetables has increased. Our long-term contracts with our farmer partners provide certainty over the price they’ll receive for their produce, giving them confidence to invest and grow their businesses.”
In December 2024, Tesco opened a new Express store in Burnt Oak, North London - its 2,882nd outlet in the UK.
