Telefonica’s 3Q15 mobile revenue in Argentina

In the previous part of this series, we saw that organically, in the local currency, Telefonica’s (TEF) revenue in Argentina rose by a significant ~22.8% YoY (year-over-year) to reach ~1 billion euros in the quarter. We also saw that some of the other telecom players in this market are Telecom Argentina (TEO) and America Movil (AMX).

Now let’s look at the performance of Telefonica’s mobile services in this market. Mobile revenue in Argentina grew robustly by ~21.6% YoY organically to reach ~0.66 billion euros during the quarter.

The mobile service revenue component increased ~24.9% YoY organically to ~0.57 billion euros in the quarter. The growth in mobile service revenue was driven by YoY organic expansion of customers’ unit revenues. The mobile ARPU (average revenue per user) thus increased ~25.5% YoY organically in 3Q15.

The data revenue component of Telefonica’s mobile service revenue increased by ~24.8% YoY organically to ~0.27 billion euros in Argentina during the quarter.

During 3Q15, Telefonica’s mobile subscribers in Argentina grew by ~2.8% YoY to ~19.8 million. Telefonica’s prepaid customers in Argentina increased by ~5.3% YoY to ~13 million in 3Q15. During the quarter, the prepaid net additions of customers were a significant ~127,000.

The company’s contract customers in Argentina decreased ~1.6% YoY to ~6.8 million in 3Q15. The net additions of customers during the quarter were ~14,000.
