Oct. 2—Tehama County has a new Building Official with the hiring of Eduardo Griego, who previously worked for the City of Red Bluff in the building department as an inspector.
The Tehama County Board of Supervisors approved Griego's contract with the county contingent on him obtaining a Building Official license within a year.
However, the vote to ratify the contract was not unanimous among the board with supervisors John Leach, Bill Moule and Matt Hansen voting in approval, Pat Nolan voting against and Candy Carlson abstaining.
The three-year contract dates back to Aug. 1 and runs through June 31, 2026. Total salary compensation for that period is reported to be $317,440 — broken down, the pay is $100,695 and $141,090 with benefits; $105,729 the following year and $111,016 in salary the third year.
While some from the public voiced concerns about Griego's qualifications, Tehama County Office Manager Angela Ford said the new building official is well qualified with 20 years of experience in the trade, and that Griego is already in the process of acquiring his building official license.
Gabriel Hydrick, county chief administrator, said to expedite the process the county is considering sending Griego to Colorado to take the license exam as that will be the quickest opportunity to do so.
Griego serves as an at-will employee of the county, however, if he chooses to resign from the position previous to the completion of the contract he is required to provide two months notice, unless he and county agree otherwise.
His benefits package, as is standard in all department head contracts, includes $60 per month cell phone allowance, 20 hours per month of personal time off, 40 hours of management time off per fiscal year, one personal holiday per year, parental leave, bereavement leave and participation in the county-sponsored deferred compensation plan on the same terms and conditions as employees in the Tehama County Management Employees' Association.
Per the contract, Griego also participates in the CalPERS 2 percent at 55 defined benefit program.
