Teamsters rally outside Coors shareholder meeting in Golden

DENVER (KDVR) — Dozens of Teamsters protested outside the Molson Coors annual shareholders meeting on Wednesday in Golden, an attempt to raise awareness of a three-month strike in Fort Worth, Texas, where hundreds of members continue to hold a strike line.

The group reported that 420 members of Local 997 went on strike on Feb. 17 after failing to agree with Molson Coors on a new contract. The union is seeking pay raises, improved retirement benefits and good Teamsters health care.

“They’re going to hear from us that the workers deserve a fair wage,” said Jeff Padellaro, director of Brewery Bakery Soft Drinks and a member of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters. “They reward their CEO and their members of management with these lucrative deals, they need to do the same thing for their employees. We’re not asking for anything unreasonable, we just wanted to be treated fairly.”

The group is calling for a boycott of the beer maker until the union members in Texas receive what the Teamsters deem a fair contract.

FOX31 reached out to Molson Coors for comment but had not yet heard back as of Wednesday evening. In the past, Coors has remarked on its commitment to doing what is right for everyone and has said it offered “highly competitive wages and benefits” during negotiations.

Coors markets itself as the fourth-largest brewer in the world, according to its investor site, and reported approximately $11.7 billion in net sales revenue last year. In its first quarter of 2024, the brewing company reported net sales increased by 10.7% and a U.S. GAAP income before income taxes of $265.4 million, a 160.5% increase.
