Taylor begins role as new DCFB board president

Sep. 23—Masonville farmer Wally Taylor is bringing experience to the role of Daviess County Farm Bureau board president.

Taylor, who took the position in August, said he held the duty about 10 years ago, giving him insight he didn't have the first time around.

"...We're not just an agricultural organization; we're for the betterment of the community," Taylor said.

Taylor is replacing Philpot farmer Scott Elliott, who completed his two-year stint leading the board.

The Daviess County Farm Bureau Board of Directors consists of 18 members, three young farmer representatives, three ex-officio members (a women's chair, a young farmer chair and an immediate past president), two emeritus directors, two county extension agents and a county secretary.

Taylor, 65, said he's been part of the board for more than 26 years.

"I came on the board when the Daviess County Farm Bureau board was about to celebrate its 75th anniversary," he said. "And then we celebrated 100 years last year."

As far as his vision for the board, Taylor said he has some ideas.

For example, Taylor said he would like to see more women get involved with the board and its programs. In its 101-year history, Joan Hayden is the woman to be president of the board.
