Sep. 4—Bullish on solar energy, especially in its use for data centers and artificial intelligence, Albuquerque-based SunState Solar has moved into new digs and hired a new general manager.
Angela Brown will serve as the new GM, previously serving stints in leadership roles with Tuff Shed and SunSpot Solar Energy Systems, the company said in a news release. It has also moved to 9440 San Mateo NE, a 3,100-square-foot building that will house the company's 11 employees.
The company, founded nearly seven years ago by broadcasting executive and serial entrepreneur Glenn Felty, primarily installs residential and commercial solar. It has installed solar for companies such as X-Ray Associates of New Mexico and Albuquerque RV and Boat Storage, the news release said.
The company's founder said New Mexico is well positioned to capitalize on solar in the age of new technology.
"As the world uses more data, and we move away from coal-fired electric plants, the need for solar is going to grow exponentially," Felty said in a statement. "In New Mexico, where we have more than 300 days a year of sunshine, we have the potential to lead the nation in solar production."
He added that New Mexico bringing in Maxeon Solar Technologies and Ebon Solar — two companies looking to building solar cell manufacturing plants at Mesa del Sol — will incentive more residents and businesses to install solar in the future.
"I always say, 'For every dollar we make, we've helped someone save money, control costs and contribute to a better future.' It's a win all the way around," he said.
