Move-based blockchain Sui has announced the launch of its upcoming device, the SuiPlay0x1, in partnership with gaming startup Playtron. Competing with established players like the Nintendo Switch, Playtron aims to revolutionize the industry by offering seamless Web3 functionality.

Developed through a collaboration between Playtron and Mysten Labs, the creators of the Sui blockchain, the SuiPlay0x1 is the world's first handheld gaming device with native Web3 capabilities, enabling the integration of traditional PC games. Set for a global release in 2025, the device will incorporate the Sui blockchain into its account system. Despite its focus on crypto gaming, the console will also support non-crypto titles from various PC storefronts.

While specific game titles for the SuiPlay0x1 have not been confirmed, there are over 40 games being developed under the Sui network, with many yet to be launched. Notable games within the Sui ecosystem include the PvP tank brawler Panzerdogs, the third-person competitive shooter Bushi, and the community party platform Byte City.

The SuiPlay0x1 will run on Playtron's Linux-based gaming operating system (OS) known as Playtron OS. Unlike Steam and Windows, Playtron OS aims to optimize the gaming experience for users. Notably, developers will not need to design their games specifically for Playtron OS. Web3 features on the console are expected to be integrated seamlessly, requiring minimal effort to integrate Sui wallets. Sui integration will occur at the OS account level, linking users' logins with a Sui wallet on the backend. This enables users to broadcast their device activities to the Sui blockchain, enhancing the overall gaming experience.
