Carmaker Stellantis subsidiary Stellantis Pro One, in partnership withQinomic, a French high-tech company focused on mobility, has unveiled an electric retrofit solution for light commercial vehicles (LCVs).
This technology enables the conversion of LCVs with combustion engines into electric vehicles (EVs), aligning with Stellantis' decarbonisation strategy and commitment to sustainable mobility.
The collaboration began in December 2022 with Stellantis' Circular Economy Business Unit SUSTAINera.
It has culminated in a system that offers significant management cost savings, reduced environmental impact, and enhanced mobility freedom.
Stellantis said that the retrofit solution is planned to be initially available for mid-size Stellantis Pro One LCVs in France. These include models such as Opel Vivaro, Fiat Professional Scudo, Peugeot Expert, and Citroen Jumpy.
Qinomic will procure over 200 original components needed for the conversion, including those related to the battery and electric motor, directly from Stellantis.
In turn, Stellantis will reclaim thermal components related to the gearbox, engine, tank, and exhaust system.
Depending on their state and usage, these reclaimed components will enter the eco-friendly loop of SUSTAINera's operations, where they will be repurposed or refurbished for further use.
This retrofit solution not only ensures OEM quality and meets safety, durability, and homologation requirements but also supports the transition to zero CO2 emission mobility.
Furthermore, the solution is expected to extend the lifespan of vehicles, allowing owners to continue using their LCVs for a longer period.
Last week, Stellantis and Valeo unveiled re-manufactured LED headlamp alongside a remanufactured infotainment display screen.
"Stellantis, Qinomic unveil electric retrofit solution for LCVs" was originally created and published by Just Auto, a GlobalData owned brand.
