Sprint’s call performance in Boise in 2H15
In the previous part of this series, we learned about improvement in the overall network performance metrics of Sprint (S) in the Boise market in 2H15. This was based on RootMetrics’ report for the market. Sprint’s call performance in Boise also improved in 2H15.
According to Sprint’s press release on November 17, 2015, “RootMetrics drove a total of 760 miles and conducted 15,452 tests in Boise. During testing Sprint recorded zero blocked or dropped calls.”
Based on the RootMetrics results, among the top four US wireless carriers, Sprint’s call performance rank improved two places in 2H15 from third place in 1H15. Sprint shared the top spot in this metric with Verizon (VZ) and AT&T (T) during 2H15.
Earlier in 1H15, Sprint had shared third place in this metric with AT&T, and Verizon had shared the top spot with T-Mobile (TMUS). However, T-Mobile’s rank dropped to fourth place in 2H15.
Sprint’s network reliability in Boise market in 2H15
Based on the RootMetrics results, Sprint maintained its second-place spot in the network reliability metric in 2H15 in the Boise market. In 1H15, Sprint had shared second place with Verizon. Verizon received the top spot in this metric in 2H15.
AT&T’s rank in this metric also improved from fourth place in 1H15 to third place in 2H15. Meanwhile, T-Mobile’s rank in this metric for Boise slipped from first place in 1H15 to third place in 2H15, tying with AT&T.
Instead of taking direct exposure to Sprint’s stock, you may consider taking diversified exposure to the telecommunication company by investing in the iShares US Telecommunications ETF (IYZ).
IYZ had ~3.5% of its holdings in Sprint at the end of September 2015.
