Sony's 'The Interview' Brings In $15 Million In 4 Days

Sony Corp (ADR) (NYSE: SNE) said that "The Interview" earned over $15 million in its first four days of distribution.

"The movie, a farce about a plot to kill North Korea’s leader, was rented or purchased online more than 2 million times from Dec. 24 through Dec. 27, Sony Pictures Entertainment said in a statement today. Apple separately began offering the comedy on its iTunes Store today, expanding the online reach," according to Bloomberg.

The movie was released in a limited number of theaters and online following threats from hackers.

Bloomberg noted that the film "has taken in about $2.8 million in box-office sales from 331 theaters since its release, Rentrak Corp., a market-research firm that tracks the movie business, said today. That includes about million on Christmas Day."

Sony stated that "The Interview" is its top online film ever.

Sony closed Friday at $21.27, down 0.26 percent.
