WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — At Amanda Preske’s store, Because Science, shoppers can find unique items, participate in fun labs and recycle their devices.
“Just being true to my desire to use and waste less and exploring what that could look like as art,” Preske said.
In 2020 she started working on the store, which combines her love for art, science and green initiatives.

“We do have a lot of things to choose from for kids as well, but our focus in the store in terms of gifts and items for sale is trying to help customers find gifts for those people that they know that are in science that are really hard to buy for,” she said. “So maybe they’re in a unique field that combines geoscience with politics or anatomy with evolution.”
The city provided her with several grants since she started her journey.
Small Business Week ends on Saturday.
