Slow calendar for Christmas week

Only a few economic reports will be released on this holiday-shortened week, with markets closed on Wednesday for Christmas. No major companies report earnings this week.

The Chicago Federal Reserve's economic index and personal income, both at 8:30 a.m. ET, are today's main releases. Revised consumer-sentiment numbers follow at 9:55 a.m. ET. None of the figures are likely to affect sentiment.

Tomorrow is the busiest day, featuring weekly mortgage applications, durable goods, the FHFA house price index, and new home sales. The market closes early, at 1 p.m. ET.

There is no trading on Wednesday, in observance of Christmas.

Thursday brings initial jobless claims. Friday's only items are weekly natural-gas and crude-oil inventories.
