Lifestyle and performance footwear manufacturer Skechers has revealed plans to move its European Distribution Centre (EDC) operations to a larger facility in Liège, Belgium.
This relocation aims to expand its operations and support its growth across Europe, as well as enhance logistics capabilities to better serve business needs.
The gradual move of the EDC operations to the new site will begin in 2028 to ensure a smooth transition.
The single-structure facility will be located just minutes from Liège Airport, near major highways and 12km from the company’s current centre.
Designed to achieve BREEAM: Excellent certification, the building will incorporate renewable energy features.
With this expansion, Skechers expects an increase in workforce requirements at the new facility.
The planned logistics centre will span 200,000m², allowing the company to boost the volume of goods shipped to meet expected demand over the next decade while significantly improving efficiencies.
The EDC is responsible for distributing products to Skechers-managed businesses across Europe.
This includes direct-to-consumer sales through e-commerce and Skechers retail stores, as well as third-party retailers and regional distribution partners.
This expansion is part of Skechers’ broader strategy to enhance its global distribution network, which already includes a regional UK facility and centres in North and South America, China, Japan, and India.
Skechers chief operating officer David Weinberg said: “Over nearly three decades of business in Europe, Skechers has established strong brand awareness and enthusiastic support for our innovative comfort technologies.
“The demand in EMEA for our product across channels and regions led to a 30% sales increase in the third quarter of 2024.
“We expect our momentum will continue as we develop more styles and make them available where consumers want to shop in Europe—be it at our more than 500 Skechers stores, e-commerce sites or our network of third-party retailers.
“We believe increased infrastructure and personnel will be required at our European Distribution Centre as the territories serviced by the facility are expected to play a key role in our anticipated near- and long-term growth.”
In April this year, Skechers expanded its retail presence across Belgium with a new store in Brussels.
"Skechers to relocate European Distribution Centre to Liège, Belgium" was originally created and published by Retail Insight Network, a GlobalData owned brand.
