Specialty vehicle manufacturer The Shyft Group has expanded collaboration with Isuzu North America to drive growth in South Carolina.

The move is aimed at facilitating business growth and establish new operations near Isuzu’s upcoming production facility in Greenville County, South Carolina.

This development builds on a relationship spanning over a decade and is expected to create new revenue opportunities.

The Shyft Group fleet vehicles & services and specialty vehicles president Jacob Farmer said: “This next chapter in our collaboration with Isuzu, which began in 2011, not only reaffirms Shyft's role as a trusted assembly partner but also positions us to expand our capabilities and deliver even greater value to Isuzu and our customers.

“We are investing in growth—expanding our footprint, advancing new upfit solutions, vehicle bodies, and platforms—that will strengthen our business and drive long-term success for both companies.”

During the multi-year production ramp-up in Greenville, Shyft will continue to assemble key Isuzu vehicle lines, including the N-Series Gas, N-Series EV, and F-Series trucks, at its campus in Charlotte Michigan.

Shyft will also aid in the planning and launch of the Isuzu’s new facility to ensure seamless transition.

The two companies are also advancing discussions to establish Shyft as a long-term provider of upfit and vehicle solutions for Isuzu’s North American operations.

Plans are underway for a dedicated upfit and modification centre near the Greenville plant, which will support Port-Installed Options (PIO), final vehicle modifications, and other upfit services.

Additionally, Shyft is preparing to introduce a new body programme to address the evolving needs of the North American commercial vehicle market.

Isuzu North America president Noboru Murakami said: “We expect that Shyft's deep assembly and upfit expertise will play a critical role as we build and scale this new production facility, and we value their continued support as we work together to deliver best-in-class commercial vehicles to the North American market.”

Isuzu's new 1,000,000ft2 facility in Greenville will centralise production, vehicle preparation, and logistics.

The plant is expected to begin production in 2027, with further expansion anticipated in 2028.

Once fully operational, the facility will have the annual production capacity to up to 50,000 vehicles .

Isuzu’s new facility will feature a variable-model, variable-volume production system capable of responding to the demand for internal combustion engine commercial vehicles.
