HIGH POINT — Two major High Point Market showroom expansion/renovation projects are underway in the downtown area.
A commercial construction permit application to the city says that 101 N. Hamilton St. is being renovated for Bernhardt Furniture Co.
The 90,892-square-foot, freestanding building was the longtime showroom for Asheboro-based Klaussner Furniture Industries, which closed abruptly last year and laid off its entire workforce, including more than 800 employees in the Triad.
The permit application says interior and exterior renovations to the showroom are planned in a $5 million investment with a projected completion by April 2025.
The property is owned by International Market Centers, which refused to comment.
Bernhardt Furniture Co. could not be reached for comment. Its current showroom is in the IHFC.
The other project is a renovation to 106 N. Main St. and a three-floor, 24,000-square-foot building addition under construction at the rear of the property in the 100 block of N. Wrenn Street.
Both are for a new showroom for a company called Essentials for Living, which is based in California and purchased the property in 2022 for $1.95 million.
The $6.5 million project is estimated to be completed by Feb. 1, according to city documents.
