Apr. 28—POTTSVILLE — As the rebuilt Sheetz opened Friday, customers eagerly flocked to the store.
Gabe King, 34, of Mahanoy City, stopped by the 900 Gordon Nagle Trail location to get gas and drinks.
"I love Sheetz. I think Sheetz has the best energy drinks," he said while filling up gas for his Ford Flex.
On Nov. 3, 2022, Sheetz temporarily closed the store, and it was subsequently demolished to make way for a new, 6,077-square-foot building.
The location opened at 8 a.m., according to an employee.
During the closure, King said he purchased gas at an Exxon on Route 61 North near Walmart in Saint Clair and at a Sheetz in North Manheim Twp., the chain's only other store in Schuylkill County.
The former 5,681-square-foot building, constructed in 2013, was the second Sheetz at the site; the original was built in 1998.
James McCrea, of Sunbury, stopped by Sheetz on his way from work in Exton, Chester County. He bought two Vitamin water beverages.
"It's convenient, isn't it? he said.
The store, open 24 hours, features kiosks, interior seating, a beer cave, mobile pickup area and merchandise. Additionally, the new location sports a drive-thru.
Robin Bozeman, 32, of Gordon, filled up her 2023 Dodge Challenger. She usually buys gas at either Fuel Up in Minersville or Wawa in Hamburg, Berks County.
"It's a good way to get quick snacks and gas on my way to do things," Bozeman said.
Sheetz operates stores in Pennsylvania, Maryland, North Carolina, Virginia and Massachusetts.
