On May 24, 2016 the Wall Street Journal reported that the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission were investigating whether CBL officials inflated rental income information on financial statements to banks when applying for financial arrangements. When this news was released, CBL's stock price fell sharply.
