Shakespeare Martineau outlines office closure plans with 60 roles at risk

Shakespeare Martineau has announced it is closing one of its two Leicester bases, amid a restructure of its business which could affect up to 60 roles across the firm. The firm has two bases in Leicester with its Meridian Business Park office set to close. Some roles based there are expected to move to its second base in the city in Colton Square. The firm has also proposed closing its Manchester office. It opened its base in the city just two years ago with the hire of real estate partner Stephen Chalcraft from Slater and Gordon. Shakespeare Martineau currently has nine UK offices, the bulk of which are spread across the Midlands, as well as London, Milton Keynes and Sheffield, and one international outpost in Brussels. Firm chief executive Andy Raynor, who is leaving the firm later this year, said: “We realise that this is difficult news for the individuals involved, especially during a period of continuing success. We are doing everything we can to support them, and where possible will find alternative roles for them within the firm.” Raynor has been with the firm since it was formed in summer 2015 from the merger of Shakespeares and SGH Martineau. The merger deal saw it enter the Legal WeekUK top 50 for the first time after posting 2015-16 revenue of £71m. Last year it announced revenue of £71.5m, following a 6% drop the previous year to £71m.
