Sanders Blames Low Turnout for Nevada Loss
Sen. Bernie Sanders says that he isn’t going anywhere after his loss in Saturday’s Democratic caucuses in Nevada.
Just the morning after losing by about 6 percentage points to Hillary Clinton, Sanders appeared on Meet the Press to say that he’s still planning to fight Clinton until the Democratic convention. He blamed low voter turn-out for his loss Saturday.
“Voter turnout was not as high as I had wanted, and what I’ve said over and over again, is we will do well when young people, when working class people come out, we do not do well when voter turnout is not large,” Sanders said on Meet the Press.
Only 80,000 Nevadans turned out for the caucus day; in 2008, 120,000 voters showed up to cast their votes, according to NBC.
Sanders also said that Clinton had an advantage due to her experience with the Nevada caucuses during her 2008 presidential run. “At the end of the day, I think she gets 19 delegates, we get 15 delegates, we move on to the next states,” he said.
