Retirement celebration planned for Community Action leader

Aug. 11—MORA — Robert Benes, executive director of the Lakes and Pines Community Action Council, will retire in early September, according to a news release.

Benes started working for the organization in 1981 as a summer youth coordinator. In the ensuing years, he served as Head Start director, and for the past 16 years worked as the organization's executive director.

"Bob has dedicated his career to assuring all Minnesotans have a fair chance to prosper. As a leader in Community Action, he has tirelessly advocated for the individual rights and strengthening of programs to provide opportunities to those in the community seeking to improve their lives," the news release said.

Lakes and Pines Community Action Council is a private nonprofit organization that provides opportunities for families and individuals to reach their goals and self-sufficiency, the news release said. It covers a seven-county area and employs 100 people.

A celebration in honor of Benes' 40-year career will take place from 2-5 p.m. Aug. 28 at the Braham Event Center, 655 8th St. SW, Braham. Members of the public are invited to attend.
