Jan. 3—HIGH POINT — The High Point restaurant partners behind University Kitchen and Alex's House are planning a new venture.
The group has purchased the former Carter Brothers Barbecue Ribs & Catering location at 3802 Samet Drive, and is preparing to open a "diner-style" restaurant there that will serve breakfast, lunch and dinner, said Mike Tsambounieris, one of the partners.
"We're renovating the whole place, and it's going to be really nice," he said. "It will be a little different from what we're doing now. We're going to combine the knowledge of the breakfast concept we have at Alex's and the homecooking approach we have from all our experience."
Tsambounieris is launching the new restaurant with his brother, John, who operates Alex's House, and Emmanuel Talarantas, with whom he owns University Kitchen and Pizza Wing King.
It doesn't have a name yet or a projected opening date.
"It will have an extra room to accommodate about 50 people for private parties, weddings and corporate meetings," said Tsambounieris.
The partners bought the 5,700-square-foot space off Eastchester Drive, along with an adjacent, undeveloped lot, for $1 million in late December.
The two parcels total about 2.3 acres, and the seller of both was Carter Brothers Holdings LLC.
The former restaurant closed there in April 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic.
