Renovations will start next year at Wisconsin Rapids Kwik Trip location. Here's how the project has changed.

WISCONSIN RAPIDS – A Kwik Trip renovation project is in the works in Wisconsin Rapids.

City leaders reviewed and approved plans to expand Kwik Trip at 2520 W. Grand Ave., including improving the facade and adding about 1,381 square feet to expand the convenience store.

A spokesperson for Kwik Trip told the Daily Tribune the renovations will add to the store’s kitchen, beverage and checkout spaces, and it will expand to add parking behind the store. While original plans called for building a car wash at the West Grand Avenue location, the new plans do not include that addition, he said.

The renovation project will start in January and is expected to be complete in May, the spokesperson said. The store will remain open throughout the remodeling project, as construction will work around the store's operations, the spokesperson said. Some areas of the store may close during the renovations, but the store itself will remain open and guests will still be able to shop as usual, he said.

Original plans to renovate the Kwik Trip on West Grand Avenue started in 2019 when city officials approved plans to expand the convenience store that was built in 2001. In preparation for the expansion, Kwik Trip purchased the former Sideroads Food & Spirits property in 2017 after the restaurant closed and the building was torn down.

By 2020, the company paused the project and planned to resume in 2022 but did not have more details to share at the time.
