Renault has renewed its partnership with musician Jean-Michel Jarre to further develop "immersive" sound experiences in its vehicles.

This collaboration, which began in 2022, will now continue for an additional four years, from 2025 to 2028.

The aim is to create advanced audio systems and musical experiences that enhance the Renault sound experience for users of brand vehicles.

Working alongside the UX/UI design and engineering teams at Renault’s Technocentre, as well as with IRCAM, audio suppliers, and other partners, Jarre will continue to design advanced audio systems.

These will include the creation of new sound environments and musical elements to enhance the acoustic identity of Renault vehicles.

Renault Group chief program officer Guido Haak said:“We are delighted to be renewing this partnership today. The original inspiration came from Luca de Meo, CEO of Renault Group, who wanted Renault vehicles to deliver superior sound quality, creating an exceptional listening environment.

“The partnership reflects our own spirit of innovation as well as the groundbreaking approach that has always been part of Jean-Michel Jarre's work. Our customers will gain a unique, immersive sound experience integrated right from the vehicle design phase in order to be even more avant-garde."

The initial phase of the partnership produced a unique sound signature for the brand’s vehicles. This included the development of in-car soundscapes tailored to musical themes, welcome tunes for drivers, and a vehicle sound for pedestrians (VSP) system.

The VSP, used in E-Tech electric and full hybrid models such as the Scenic, Megane, Renault 5, Rafale, Austral, and Symbioz, emits a sound at speeds below 30km/h to alert pedestrians.

Versions of the welcome sound were created for specific models, including the Esprit Alpine and the Renault 5 and Renault 4 E-Tech electric vehicles (EVs).

The renewed collaboration aims to explore the potential of AI in enhancing audio experiences, with a focus on achieving high standards of sound quality and innovation.

Future Renault models will feature the results of this extended partnership.

In February 2025, Renault signed a framework agreement with China’s Geely to expand their strategic cooperation to Brazil to focus on the development and sale of zero and low-emission vehicles.
