Reliance Industries has ventured into sports hydration drinks with the launch of Spinner, "co-created" with former Sri Lankan cricketer Muttiah Muralitharan.

Spinner is priced at Rs10 ($0.12) per bottled drink.

In a statement, the FMCG arm of Indian conglomerate Reliance said Spinner is “uniquely positioned” and it will “lead the movement in creating a sports beverage category of up to $1bn in the next three years”.

Spinner's launch is supported by partnerships with Indian Premier League cricket teams including Lucknow Super Giants, SunRisers Hyderabad and Punjab Kings.

Reliance Consumer Products COO Ketan Mody said: “With Spinner, we have created an affordable and effective hydration solution that can be enjoyed by everyone, whether you're a professional athlete or just someone looking to stay hydrated.

“As a total beverage and FMCG company, we are excited to bring this innovative product to the market, in partnership with cricketing legend Muttiah Muralitharan and IPL teams, as we continue our mission to make hydration accessible to all.”

Spinner's range, which includes the flavours lemon, orange and nitro blue, is made with added electrolytes.

Muralitharan added: “As an athlete, I know how important hydration is, especially when you are on the move or playing a sport. Spinner is a game-changer that will empower every Indian to stay hydrated and active, no matter where they are or what they are doing.”

Last month, Reliance Consumer Products announced its entry into the "rehydration category" with RasKik Gluco Energy, a drink containing added electrolytes, glucose and lemon juice. The group's Raskik brand already produces coconut-water based drinks in several different flavours.

Reliance also owns the Campa Cola brand, which it relaunched in 2023 after acquiring Campa in 2022.

"Reliance Industries makes sports drinks debut " was originally created and published by Just Drinks, a GlobalData owned brand.
