Redevelopment Commission purchases 2 downtown lots

Apr. 10—ANDERSON — The Anderson Redevelopment Commission has approved the purchase of two vacant lots for future use as parking areas.

The Redevelopment Commission voted Tuesday to purchase the two lots on West 13th Street for $4,500 from First United Methodist Church.

Commission member David Eicks said the property is across from the City of Anderson Transit Center.

He said the intention is to convert the two lots into parking areas for the downtown area to include the steakhouse opening in the Transit Center this year.

The commission voted to allow attorney Mike Austin to complete the sale of the former General Motors Plant 10 property to Perfecto Tool and Engineering for $1 near 29th Street.

The company is planning a $10 million investment in the project for a 60,000 square foot facility with room for future expansion up to 120,000 square feet.

Austin said General Motors donated the property to the Redevelopment Commission in 2006.

He said Perfecto Tool is doubling the capacity of its current facility.

"This is a major commitment for the city of Anderson," Austin said of the Perfecto planned expansion. "This is assisting a local company to expand."

As part of the sales agreement, Perfecto will be required to construct the new building, and provide the amount of the investment and the number of employees.

Greg Winkler, executive director of the Anderson Economic Development Department, said the Indiana Department of Environmental Management is requiring a soil gas sampling on the edge of the property.

Winkler said IDEM is requiring the testing for Perfecto to finance the project.

The commission approved a contract for the testing by IMW for $8,250.

Last month, the Redevelopment Commission approved $300,000 for the construction of a retention pond that will capture water to be released into a drainage ditch.
