Reading Hospital opens new pharmacy on West Reading campus

Jun. 22—Reading Hospital has added another resource for patients on its West Reading campus.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held Thursday for a new, full-service pharmacy inside the hospital's doctor's office building on Seventh Avenue. The space the new pharmacy will call home was formerly the location of Esterbrook Pharmacy, which moved out when it merged with West Reading Drug Store in January.

The opening of the new pharmacy means the hospital's campus will once again have two pharmacies.

The pharmacy is intended to provide quick and easy access for patients to get prescriptions, over-the-counter medications and supplements. It is also a member of the Specialty Management Program, which will allow it to provide specialized medications that may require advanced storage and handling that may not be available at other pharmacies.

People will also be able to use the pharmacy as a drop-off location for unused medication.

"We are so excited to launch a second full-service pharmacy for our employees and community members," Dr. Charles Barbera, Reading Hospital's president and CEO, said in a release. "Our ability to provide more specialized medications that may not otherwise be conveniently available will be a tremendous benefit to patients. We are happy to help address the complete health needs of our families, friends and neighbors."

The pharmacy will accept most insurance plans and will offer automatic refills, prescription transfers and text notifications.

Patients can visit the pharmacy Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., or Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. It will be closed on Sundays.
