Quad leaders: We seek a region where no country dominates

TOKYO, May 20 (Reuters) - The leaders of the United States, Japan, India and Australia on Saturday said they seek a region "where no country dominates and no country is dominated", language that appeared to be aimed at China.

The leaders of the four countries - known as the Quad grouping - released their statement on the sidelines of the Group of Seven (G7) summit in the Japanese city of Hiroshima.

India will host the United States, Australia and Japan next year for a summit of the Quad, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Saturday.

The meeting was moved to the sidelines of the summit after U.S. President Joe Biden postponed his trip to Australia to return to Washington, amid ongoing negotiations over the raising the U.S. debt limit. (Reporting by David Dolan and Sakura Murakami, Editing by William Maclean)
