Overview

Britain on Wednesday outlined a new legal framework for Brexit, accepting that European Union judges could continue to have a say in British affairs during a transition period.

The UK Home Office said it had mistakenly sent letters to about 100 EU nationals notifying them that "a decision has now been taken to remove you from the United Kingdom", which included a threat of deportation if they did not leave the country within a month.

Scotland's budget deficit narrowed but it is still more than three times the scale of the UK as a whole, according to Scottish government data.

British MP Amber Rudd has commissioned the Home Office's first probe into the economic impact of international students in the UK. The investigation is to be launched by the home secretary on Thursday.
