Known for handcrafted burgers, freshly cut double-cooked fries, and made-to-order milkshakes with mix-ins such as crispy bacon, a nationwide fast-casual burger chain is planning a new Jacksonville location.
Five Guys plans to open in mid-January at 4495 Roosevelt Blvd., Units 300-301, in Ortega Park ― the redeveloped former Roosevelt Square shopping center ― Brooke Blankenship, restaurant public relations and marketing coordinator, told the Times-Union.
The Ortega Park restaurant will be the eighth Five Guys location in Jacksonville. The chain's Northeast Florida contingent also includes one restaurant in Orange Park and two in Gainesville.
"This will be our 126th store in Florida. We will have about 50 indoor seating options available, with outdoor dining as well," Blankenship said of the Ortega Park restaurant, which will have approximately 30 employees.
At an estimated buildout cost of $350,000, the new 2,773-square-foot restaurant will be in Building E of Ortega Park ― about four miles north of Naval Air Station Jacksonville.
The Publix-anchored shopping center already offers diverse dining and dessert options. Among them are Metro Diner, First Watch, Chipotle Mexican Grill, Peach Cobbler Factory, LongHorn Steakhouse, Cold Stone Creamery, Chick-fil-A, and KFC.
Five Guys will be a few doors from a new 2,650-square-foot Chicken Salad Chick building out units 306-307.
'More than 250,000 ways to customize your burger'
Five Guys notes there are "more than 250,000 ways to customize your burger and more than 1,000 milkshake combinations."
Five Guys emphasizes that it only uses fresh ground beef, and double cooks its fries in 100% peanut oil. And there are no freezers, just coolers at its restaurants.
The restaurant's single or double-patty classic hamburgers, cheeseburgers and bacon cheeseburgers are served on toasted sesame seed buns with as many toppings as the customer wants. Five Guys also features all-beef hot dogs, and sandwiches ranging from all-veggie to BLTs and grilled cheese.
Two styles of fries ― original and Cajun seasoning ― are offered.
Milkshakes range from classics, including chocolate, to those with mix-ins such as bacon, banana or strawberries, Reese's Peanut Butter Cups or salted caramel, the menu shows.
Sprawling Virginia restaurant expansion
Five Guys, now headquartered in Alexandria, Va., dates back to 1986. The restaurant was founded by Jerry and Janie Murrell who opened the first restaurant in Arlington, Va. The restaurant's popularity quickly grew and the couple began franchising in 2002.
