ORLANDO, FL--(Marketwired - Apr 2, 2015) - For decades, breast lift surgery has been used to help women combat the effects that excess, inelastic skin on the breasts can have on their bodies and their self-esteem. Often due to factors such as weight loss, genetics, pregnancy, breastfeeding, or the natural aging process, many women experience a certain degree of breast "sagginess" at some point in their lives. Dr. Jon Paul Trevisani, an Orlando plastic surgeon and Medical Director of the Aesthetic Surgery Centre, says the breast lift is one of the more popular options at his practice. Having performed thousands of breast surgery procedures, he says the treatment can significantly renew the breasts with firmer, more youthful results. With that in mind, he notes, women who are considering breast lift surgery should have a clear idea about what to expect during the procedure and recovery period so there are no surprises.

Breast lift surgery involves the removal of loose, excess skin in the breasts that has caused them to lose shape and sag. The remaining skin is then tightened and redraped, effectively lifting the breasts to a higher position for a smoother, more vibrant appearance. Dr. Jon Paul Trevisani says, although a breast lift with implants procedure can often be performed for women who would like to add volume to the breasts in addition to renewing their appearance, breast lift surgery can also be performed as a stand-alone procedure. He notes that a breast lift procedure typically only takes about one and-a-half to three and-a-half hours to complete, and can be performed on an outpatient basis. There are a variety of breast lift techniques that can be performed, the doctor says, and the best option for one's individual needs and goals will be determined at the initial patient consultation.

During recovery, the Orlando breast surgeon says women can expect some bruising and swelling for several days after treatment; however, he says pain can be managed with medication and postoperative compliance. Dr. Jon Paul Trevisani says patients will need to wear a supportive bra for six weeks after breast lift surgery in order to facilitate the healing process, and plan for a limited ability to lift the arms for a temporary period after surgery. For patients who are worried about scarring from breast lift surgery, he says the combination of advanced techniques and a skilled plastic surgeon can result in very light, inconspicuous scars that will likely fade even further with time.

Dr. Jon Paul Trevisani says many women are able to return to normal daily activities about two weeks after breast lift surgery; however, strenuous exercise and certain motions will need to be limited for several weeks until the breasts have fully healed. For most patients, he recommends light exercises such as walking during the immediate recovery period. Dr. Jon Paul Trevisani says follow-up appointments will be scheduled regularly to examine the patient, answer questions, and ensure the healing process is progressing smoothly.
