Plans for Pensacola's first Costco taking shape. See what's in store.

Costco filed updated site plans for its first Pensacola-area location with Escambia County on Monday, providing more clarity on what the wholesale retailer has planned for our area.

Costco has proposed building a retail store in an existing shopping center at 225 E. Nine Mile Road and for it to have 172,580 square feet along with a gas station and 885 parking spaces.

The proposal’s information form shows that the project will comprise 21.87 acres.

Site plans show that Dairy Queen, Sam’s Seafood Restaurant and Wells Fargo on East Nine Mile Road are planned to remain in the plaza even if Costco receives the green light on its proposal. They also show that Costco wants to build the gas station in between Sam’s Seafood and Wells Fargo.

The chain initially filed its plans with the county in June and received feedback from the Development Review Committee (DRC) on the proposal a month later. In July, the DRC requested an updated proposal from Costco that outlined details like ADA parking, a lighting plan and showing all outside waste facilities among other requests.

Costco’s latest proposal provides a clearer picture of their vision and addressed the DRC’s feedback from a few months ago, including ADA parking.

The new set of plans also outlines each phase of the project, from their demolition plans to their utility and construction plans, throughout its 36 pages.

Costco’s first proposal included a site plan with a single page.

If Costco’s plans are approved by the DRC, they’ll demolish the shopping plaza’s existing building and some infrastructure to construct their retail store.

This project was filed with Escambia County on Oct. 28 and will not be reviewed at the DRC’s upcoming meeting.
