PayPal Holdings, Inc. PYPL will considerably expand its Seller Protection policy in six Asian markets namely, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, the Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam.
The improved and expanded policy will now include qualified intangible goods — travel tickets, event tickets, taxi rides, services and much more — based on unauthorized transactions.
Under the modified program, PayPal will provide expanded coverage in case a client asks for an unauthorized chargeback, or makes an unauthorized claim against a vendor for services or qualified intangible goods.
The sellers, on the other hand, will get a chance to respond to the claim within a given time frame through proof of fulfilling the order. This will boost the confidence of Southeast Asian merchants while trading physical or intangible goods locally as well as overseas.
Going Ahead
Research firm Frost and Sullivan estimates that by 2018 the total revenue from B2C e-Commerce in these six Southeast Asian countries will grow at a CAGR of 37.6% to $34.5 billion. Intangibles form a considerable portion of this e-Commerce base.
PayPal was recently spun off from eBay Inc. into an independent publicly traded company. Following the spin-off, the company started trading on the Nasdaq stock exchange in July. The separation will offer sharper focus and greater flexibility to both the companies to pursue growth opportunities in their respective markets. PayPal is definitely gearing up to make a mark for itself in the fast growing digital payment space.
