S&P 500 ends week at record high

Equity indexes set more records on Friday, pushing the CBOE Volatility Index down near the 12 level.

The S&P 500 was up 7.56 points to close at 1798.18, essentially its high for the day and a new all-time high. It has support at 1750.

The Nasdaq 100 was up 7.44 to 3422.59. It too finished at the day's high and posted another 13-year closing high. It has support at 3300.

(When equity indexes are at highs, further resistance levels are obviously projections not based on previous trading patterns. We therefore will refrain from listing any.)

The Russell 2000 was up almost 5 points to 1116.19 but remains below the highs of two weeks ago. It has resistance at 1123 and support at 1080.

The VIX was down 0.18 points to 12.19. The volatility index had dipped as low as 11.99 in the morning but was in positive territory in the final 30 minutes.

The VIX futures were lower. The November futures, which only have two days of trading left, closed at 12.95. The December futures finished at 14.35. That had the iPath S&P 500 VIX Short-Term Futures Note (:VXX) down 1.28 percent to yet another new low of $47.03.
