How did 2024 grads rate their online MBA programs for professor quality, ability to make connections, experiential learning and more?
If you want to get down to the nitty gritty of how one online MBA stacks against another in the ways that most matter to prospective students, ask the alumni.
And that’s what we do each year as an essential part of our ranking of the best online MBA programs in the U.S. (See 2025’s full ranking here.)
Two out of three categories rank relies on responses to our alumni surveys, sent to thousands of the schools’ most recent graduates. These categories – Academic Experience and Career Outcomes – asks graduates questions ranging from whether or not they would recommend their online MBA programs to others to the quality and responsiveness of their instructors. We also ask a series of questions relating to how well the program has impacted their careers, either during the program or immediately after.
You can find more about the career questions in our story, “How Online MBA 2024 Graduates Rated The Degree’s Career Impact.”
These surveys give us and our readers a pulse on what programs are doing well, according to their recent graduates, and what programs are not doing as well.
This year, we surveyed alumni from the Class of 2024, those graduating between July 1, 2023 and June 30, 2024. The survey was sent to 7,823 eligible alumni at 57 ranked programs with 1,293 returned surveys. That’s a 17% response rate.
As with previous years, we asked alumni more than a dozen questions about their academic experience ranging from their ability to make connections with their instructors and classmates to how immediately they were able to apply what they were learning in the classroom.
On the following pages, we show how Class of 2024 alumni from each of the 57 participating schools rated their programs on a number of factors. Click through each page, or go to a particular category listed below:

WOULD YOU RECOMMEND?
Perhaps the most important question we ask on the alumni survey is the likelihood they would recommend their online MBA program to others. At the end of the day – after spending tens of thousands of dollars and two or more years of their lives – it is the ultimate testament to program quality.
Across the board, all the ranked schools did well on this measure with 36 separate programs receiving an alumni average score of 9 or above on a ten-point scale, with ten reflecting the strongest recommendation from graduates.
Hofstra University (Zarb) and North Carolina State University (Poole) scored the highest with perfect 10s. In other words, all alumni surveyed said they would be very likely to recommend the program to friends, family or colleagues.

FORMAT SATISFACTION
This section includes responses to three survey questions focusing on program format: Level of satisfaction with the program’s synchronous (or live) sessions, satisfaction with the asynchronous content, and satisfaction with the program’s flexibility.
Many online MBA programs have a blend of synchronous classes (live online) with asynchronous recorded videos which students can watch on their own time. The two tables below show how alumni at each school rated their satisfaction with both aspects of their program.
Rate your level of satisfaction with the synchronous (live) sessions. | ||

FLEXIBILITY
Flexibility in an online MBA program is fairly expected. But some schools are better at doing it than others, according to their recent grads.
This year, four alumni at four schools rated their satisfaction with the programs’ flexibility as perfect 10s: Hofstra University (Zarb), University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, University of Utah (Eccles) and Worcester Polytechnic Institute.

QUALITY OF PROFESSORS
The quality of professors can make or break the student experience for any graduate program, particularly online. We asked alumni to rate their professors in overall quality as well as in accessibility and responsiveness. As with other questions, respondents rated professors on a 10-point scale.
Alumni at University of Utah (Eccles) rated their faculty the highest for quality with an average 9.9. Indiana Kelley and University of Michigan (Ross) faculty followed close behind with 9.8. In all, alumni from 34 programs rated professor quality 9 or higher.
When rated on their accessibility and responsiveness, Hofstra University (Zarb) professors earned a perfect 10. Professors from four other programs were rated 9.9 by their alumni for professor responsiveness: Indiana University (Kelley), Jack Welch Management Institute, University of Utah (Eccles), and Villanova University.
An impressive 43 of 57 schools earned a score of 9 or higher in the metric from alumni.

EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING
Experiential learning is a tangible way to bring an online program into the real world. Programs often add this through in-person classes and trips, having students work on consulting projects for real companies, and working on presentations that mimic those in the work place.
Alumni from seven programs rated their satisfaction as the highest possible on the scale for in-person experiences, as you can see in the table below. Thirty six schools also had in-person programming rated a 9 or higher.

APPLYING LESSONS AT WORK
One of the best parts about an online MBA versus a full-time residential MBA is the ability to literally test-drive the degree and what you’re learning in your job in real time. This is true both for practical lessons in the classroom as well as working well with others.
Graduates of Worcester Polytechnic Institute rated their ability to immediately apply what they learned in the program to the job better than any other alumni base.

MAKING CONNECTIONS
One thing that sets great online MBA programs apart from mediocre ones is the opportunity for students to make connections and to get involved with their school. We asked alumni three questions to measure this: Their ability to connect with classmates, their connection to faculty, and their satisfaction with student clubs and organizations.
The OMBA program at Hofstra University (Zarb) earned the highest score for opportunities provided to create good connections with fellow students. Also scoring highly in this category are University of Utah (Eccles) and University of Washington (Foster).
