Online buyers shift to tablets

Nearly half of online shoppers will use tablets to make holiday purchases this year instead of desktop and laptop computers, an indirect boon to Apple (AAPL), Amazon (AMZN), Microsoft (MSFT) and other tablet makers. Still, desktop and laptop-based shopping remains the dominant online channel for gift buying, according to a survey by Zmags, which provides digital catalogs. Zmags says 44% of online shoppers plan to use a tablet this year. Of those, 19% plan to make more purchases using tablets than last year. Apple shares rose 0.01% to 542.90. Amazon rose 1% to 226.60.
