One OceanPal Insider Raised Their Stake In The Previous Year

In This Article:

Looking at OceanPal Inc.'s (NASDAQ:OP ) insider transactions over the last year, we can see that insiders were net buyers. That is, there were more number of shares purchased by insiders than there were sold.

Although we don't think shareholders should simply follow insider transactions, we would consider it foolish to ignore insider transactions altogether.

The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At OceanPal

Over the last year, we can see that the biggest insider purchase was by insider George Economou for US$636k worth of shares, at about US$1.96 per share. That means that an insider was happy to buy shares at around the current price of US$2.14. While their view may have changed since the purchase was made, this does at least suggest they have had confidence in the company's future. We do always like to see insider buying, but it is worth noting if those purchases were made at well below today's share price, as the discount to value may have narrowed with the rising price. In this case we're pleased to report that the insider bought shares at close to current prices. The only individual insider to buy over the last year was George Economou.

George Economou bought a total of 1.05m shares over the year at an average price of US$2.34. Does OceanPal Boast High Insider Ownership?

Another way to test the alignment between the leaders of a company and other shareholders is to look at how many shares they own. I reckon it's a good sign if insiders own a significant number of shares in the company. It appears that OceanPal insiders own 16% of the company, worth about US$2.5m. While this is a strong but not outstanding level of insider ownership, it's enough to indicate some alignment between management and smaller shareholders.

So What Do The OceanPal Insider Transactions Indicate?

It is good to see the recent insider purchase. We also take confidence from the longer term picture of insider transactions. But we don't feel the same about the fact the company is making losses. Given that insiders also own a fair bit of OceanPal we think they are probably pretty confident of a bright future. In addition to knowing about insider transactions going on, it's beneficial to identify the risks facing OceanPal. For example, OceanPal has 3 warning signs (and 2 which don't sit too well with us) we think you should know about.
