Old Navy coming to this Marlboro shopping plaza, and that's not all

MARLBORO - Apparel retailer Old Navy is coming to Marlboro Plaza on Route 9, taking a spot vacant since Modell's Sporting Goods went out of business in 2020.

The company has signed a lease for the 15,000-square-foot store, said Marc Kemp, principal at Woodmere, New York-based Basser-Kaufman, the owner of Marlboro Plaza.

Planet Fitness also will open a fitness club at a 22,786-square-foot spot in the plaza. A representative of Planet Fitness could not be reached for comment on Tuesday.

Old Navy is estimated to open in March, Kemp said.

"They’re a great retailer and I think it adds to the fashion tenants of the center with TJ Maxx and some of the other smaller fashion" retailers, Kemp told What's Going There. "It think they will be a great fit with Sephora."

With the addition of Old Navy and Planet Fitness, the center is now fully leased, the firm said in a Facebook post.

Old Navy, which features apparel for women, men, children and babies, has six stores in Monmouth and Ocean counties.

Besides Sephora and TJ Maxx, other retailers at Monmouth Plaza include Hobby Lobby, Kohl's, Livotti's Old World Market, McDonald's, and most recently, Starbucks, which opened this summer.

Modell's closed its store at Marlboro Plaza, which is located at the corner of Route 9 and Route 520, in winter 2020, shortly before the sporting goods and apparel retailer filed for bankruptcy and went out of business.
