Partners Morris Borea, and Karl-Erik Sternlof have joined Halloran Sage's Hartford and New London offices, respectively. Borea, a former principal at Rome McGuigan who covers municipal and state litigation and dispute resolution, has represented Connecticut municipalities in state and federal courts for the past 20 years. He is a graduate of Trinity College and the University of Connecticut School of Law. Sternlof joins the firm’s New London office after serving for more than a decade there as vice president of the city's Municipal Development Corp. He is a member of the corporate business and transactions and real estate practice groups, providing legal assistance to businesses and advocating for commercial development. A New London resident, he attended Trinity and UConn Law. Robbie Gerrick, who also covers municipal and state government issues, adds expertise to Halloran Sage's insurance, workers' compensation and appellate practice groups. She is the former town attorney for Rocky Hill and has represented several other Connecticut towns. She is a graduate of the John Jay College of Criminal Justice and UConn Law. Alyssa Caserta and Carissa Smith have joined the firm as associates. Caserta joins the litigation and dispute resolution practice group at the Hartford office, with a focus on personal injury and products liability. She received her J.D. from Quinnipiac University School of Law and her B.A. from Northeastern University. Smith joins the insurance practice group in Halloran Sage's Westport office and will handle matters related to insurance coverage and defense, personal injury defense, and premises liability defense. Sharp has become a partner in the firm's business and finance and employee benefits practice groups, and Martha M. Royston has joined as a litigation associate. Sharp specializes in qualified and nonqualified plan documents, counseling clients on plan implementation, compliance and termination-related matters, as well as fiduciary obligations. He has provided advice on prohibited transaction issues, the application of related class or statutory exemptions and benefits issues arising from mergers and acquisitions. Sharp received his J.D. from the University of Maine School of Law and his B.A. from the University of Maine. Royston joins as an associate in the litigation department and a member of the labor and employment practice group, representing employers facing claims of discrimination and retaliation; breach of noncompete and restrictive covenants; and wage-and hour-violations. She has litigated matters before the Commission on Human Rights and Opportunities and in state and federal court. She also assists with audits, government investigations, best practices and personnel matters. Royston graduated Boston College Law School and Bowdoin College. Day Pitney Adds Newest Partner Michael Kaufman Three hundred-strong East Coast firm Day Pitney has welcomed Michael W. Kaufman as partner in the finance group, working out of Stamford. Formerly a partner at Robinson & Cole, Kaufman has worked on all aspects of secured and unsecured bank, mezzanine and other senior and subordinated lending, representing borrowers, banks and other lenders. Clients include small business investment companies, private equity clients, financial institutions and individuals with high-value assets. “Michael brings deep experience with complex financing transactions across a wide range of industries, which will directly benefit our clients,” said R. Scott Beach, chairman of Day Pitney's Corporate and Business Law Department. “He will strengthen our commercial finance capabilities and enhance our private equity practice.
