Nova Minerals Stock Down 12% But Insiders Still In AU$127k Profit

In This Article:

Insiders who purchased Nova Minerals Limited (ASX:NVA) shares in the past 12 months are unlikely to be deeply impacted by the stock's 12% decline over the past week. After accounting for the recent loss, the AU$556.3k worth of shares they purchased is now worth AU$683.6k, suggesting a good return on their investment.

Although we don't think shareholders should simply follow insider transactions, we do think it is perfectly logical to keep tabs on what insiders are doing.

The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At Nova Minerals

Over the last year, we can see that the biggest insider purchase was by CEO & Executive Director Christopher Gerteisen for AU$200k worth of shares, at about AU$0.24 per share. Even though the purchase was made at a significantly lower price than the recent price (AU$0.29), we still think insider buying is a positive. Because the shares were purchased at a lower price, this particular buy doesn't tell us much about how insiders feel about the current share price.

Insider Ownership

I like to look at how many shares insiders own in a company, to help inform my view of how aligned they are with insiders. I reckon it's a good sign if insiders own a significant number of shares in the company. From our data, it seems that Nova Minerals insiders own 5.9% of the company, worth about AU$5.6m. But they may have an indirect interest through a corporate structure that we haven't picked up on. Whilst better than nothing, we're not overly impressed by these holdings.

What Might The Insider Transactions At Nova Minerals Tell Us?

It doesn't really mean much that no insider has traded Nova Minerals shares in the last quarter. However, our analysis of transactions over the last year is heartening. We'd like to see bigger individual holdings. However, we don't see anything to make us think Nova Minerals insiders are doubting the company. While it's good to be aware of what's going on with the insider's ownership and transactions, we make sure to also consider what risks are facing a stock before making any investment decision.
